The Imo State Police Command on Thursday, paraded a four-woman child trafficking syndicate for the kidnap and sale of a 5-year-old girl in the state. The suspects are: Chiamaka Ukeje, 22, of UmuduruIsiala, Mbano L.G.A of Imo State, Sandra Ezuka, 26, of Ozoro in Isoko L.G.A, Delta State, Ruth Marvis Solomon, 41, Of Umuehie Anarain Isiala Mbano LGA, Imo State but resident at No.
55 Umusoya Road, Obigbo, Rivers State and Joy Blessing Jack Edum, 45, of Abua Odua L.G.A of Rivers State but resident at Rumwara Obiakpo, Rivers State. Parading the suspects alongside others arrested for various crimes, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said the four child traffickers were arrested on January 22, 2018, by operatives of the Scorpion Squad acting on a tipoff.
"The four man child trafficking syndicate who conspired and stole one ChinagoromNdukwe ‘f’ aged 5yrs old at UmuduruIsiala, Mbano and sold the baby to one Joy Blessing Edum of RumuwaraObiakpo Port-Harcourt, Rivers State who bought the child at the sum of Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (#350, 000. 00)" said the police boss. The child has been recovered and reunited with the family.
The Suspects have made useful statements to the police confessing to the crime and also stated that they all met themselves at the Federal Prisons Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
Speaking to newsmen, the prime suspect, Chiamaka, said she kidnapped the child in order to take revenge on the girl's father. She claimed that her own father and the victim's father had a problem so she kidnapped the child for revenge.
